Role Summary
The Business Development Manager — Construction Suppliers is responsible for identifying, developing, and closing new client relationships with construction-related businesses, especially suppliers, distributors, and companies with significant accounts receivable exposure.
This role will target owners, CFOs, controllers, credit managers, and finance leaders who are dealing with aging receivables, slow-paying customers, and cash flow pressure. The ideal candidate is a disciplined sales professional with experience selling B2B services, financial services, accounting-related solutions, construction services, or professional services.
This is not a transactional sales role. The Business Development Manager must understand business pain, ask strong financial and operational questions, and position BlackOx Capital as a trusted cash acceleration partner.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospect construction-related companies, including suppliers, distributors, specialty contractors, equipment providers, and related businesses.
- Build a pipeline of qualified opportunities across Washington, Oregon, and targeted growth markets.
- Identify decision-makers, including CFOs, controllers, owners, credit managers, and accounting leaders.
- Conduct discovery calls to understand AR aging issues, payment delays, cash flow pressure, and internal collection capacity.
- Present BlackOx Capital's cash acceleration service model clearly and professionally.
- Explain how BlackOx differs from factoring companies, lenders, collection agencies, and traditional AR outsourcing.
- Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting to discovery, proposal, follow-up, negotiation, and close.
- Develop relationships with industry associations, construction networks, finance leaders, and referral partners.
- Work with internal leadership to create proposals, pricing structures, and client onboarding plans.
- Maintain accurate pipeline data in CRM systems.
- Attend virtual and in-person meetings with potential clients.
- Coordinate handoff from sales to client success and operations teams.
- Represent BlackOx Capital professionally in all communications.
- Support development of outbound campaigns, referral strategies, local market targeting, and industry-specific messaging.
- Monitor industry trends related to construction payment delays, receivables risk, supplier cash flow, and contractor payment behavior.
- Meet or exceed sales targets, pipeline goals, and new client acquisition objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in B2B sales, business development, account management, financial services sales, construction sales, professional services sales, or related commercial sales.
- Experience working with construction-related companies, suppliers, contractors, distributors, or project-based businesses.
- Ability to sell to owners, executives, controllers, finance managers, or senior decision-makers.
- Strong communication, presentation, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to understand business pain related to cash flow, receivables, delayed payment, and operational pressure.
- Strong prospecting discipline and ability to build a sales pipeline from scratch.
- Comfortable using CRM systems, email campaigns, phone outreach, and
- LinkedIn prospecting.
- Professional writing skills for follow-up emails, proposals, and client communication.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with internal teams.
- Strong judgment, persistence, and emotional intelligence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience selling into building material suppliers is strongly preferred but not required.
- Background in construction finance, commercial credit, AR services, staffing, equipment rental, distribution, accounting services, or working capital solutions.
- Experience selling services to CFOs, controllers, credit managers, or business owners.
- Familiarity with construction payment cycles, lien rights, retainage, payment applications, supplier terms, and contractor payment delays.
- Experience in consultative selling.
- Existing relationships in the construction supply, distribution, or contractor ecosystem.

Work Environment
This is a hybrid role requiring 2–3 days per week in office. The role includes office-based work, phone outreach, video calls, in-person meetings, industry networking, and occasional local travel.
The Business Development Manager must be comfortable operating in a growth-stage environment where initiative, follow-through, and accountability matter.
